 Accommodating diversity in Mauritius: a constitutional model to be exported?

Mauritius is a small island of just 720 square miles, located in the Indian Ocean with a population of  slightly more than 1, 300,00 inhabitants. Today, it is considered one of the most developed nations in Africa, despite of the negative prognostications made in the Sixties, leading some scholarship to talk about the “Mauritian Miracle”. It is a highly densely populated and a multiethnic, multi-religious and multi-lingual State. The reasons for this heterogeneity can be found in Mauritius’ recent history, which is also able to explain its special legal blend resulting in a mix between French civil law and British common law...
