Human Rights Violations of Persons with Albinism in Tanzania

Abstract (En): The paper examines the ruling of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights in the case Center for Human Rights and Others v. United Republic of Tanzania, which held Tanzania responsible for the violation of several fundamental rights of persons with albinism (PWA). The judgment provides for the first time clarification on the concrete scope and implications of African States’ international duties towards such vulnerable group, highlighting the importance of non-pecuniary reparations for addressing and preventing wide and systematic human rights abuses.

Abstract (It): Il contributo esamina la decisione della Corte africana dei diritti dell'uomo e dei popoli nel caso Center for Human Rights and Others v. United Republic of Tanzania, che ha ritenuto la Tanzania responsabile della violazione di diversi diritti fondamentali delle persone con albinismo. La sentenza chiarisce per la prima volta la portata concreta e le implicazioni degli obblighi internazionali degli Stati africani nei confronti di tale gruppo vulnerabile, evidenziando l'importanza di forme di riparazione non pecuniaria per affrontare e prevenire diffuse e sistematiche violazioni dei diritti umani.
