 Transitioning to Brexit

We ended February’s bulletin on a hopeful note that the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May’s speech  on 2 March 2018, would assist in progressing the Brexit negotiations and maybe even prompt a conciliatory tone to the negotiations. From the advent of the achievement of an acceptance on both sides that a transition period is necessary, and at least a blue print of its terms, then one may conclude that it did. The alternative view is that the reality of the complexity of Brexit and the sheer size of the task of disentangling a Member State from the EU after over 40 years of membership, means that neither side has any choice but to concede. You will forgive us – and in fact may actually thank us – for not taking you through the full 129 pages of the Draft Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community although we have provided the link to this delightful document.
