 Fake news e referendum

Abstract [It]: Requisito essenziale per ogni ordinamento democratico è una corretta informazione della cosa pubblica, tanto più nel caso di consultazioni referendarie. Quale rimedio contro le fake news che possono condizionare l’esito dei referendum? La concezione liberale del digital market place of ideas appare insufficiente e problematiche risultano anche altre soluzioni prospettate in dottrina. La via più efficace e duratura per combattere le false notizie e assicurare una corretta informazione sembra allora quella di potenziare in ogni modo l’istruzione pubblica.

 

Abstract [En]: Correct information on public matters is the pillar of democracy, especially when it comes to referenda. What solutions can be implemented in order to prevent the spread of fake news which could affect the outcome of a referendum? Neither the liberal conception of the digital marketplace of ideas, nor other solutions suggested by scholars so far appear to be adequate. This article argues that promoting and reinforcing public education in every way possible is ultimately the most effective and enduring tool in the fight against fake news
